Bitcoin market capitalization
Loading current Bitcoin data
Connecting to live sources…An estimate of Bitcoin's total market value, calculated from price and circulating supply.
What it means
Market capitalization is the current Bitcoin price multiplied by the estimated number of bitcoin in circulation. It is a valuation measure, not the amount of cash invested in Bitcoin.
Why it matters
It provides a broad way to compare Bitcoin's scale over time or against other assets whose values are calculated similarly.
A higher market cap generally reflects a higher Bitcoin price, a slowly increasing circulating supply, or both.
A lower market cap generally reflects a lower Bitcoin price. The circulating supply normally changes only gradually.
